Savannah State University Partners with Harlem Globetrotters to Offer Live Event Certificate Program

July 29, 2021 - Savannah State University is partnering with the Harlem Globetrotters to invest in students' future careers in live events and entertainment. In spring 2022, the university will offer a live event certification program to students through its College of Business Administration.

Students will learn merchandising operations, how to advance box offices, tour management concepts, merchandising and licensing opportunities, and gain skills into the business side and executive level of sports. 

"This is an opportunity for people who care about sports and the entertainment industry to take their passion to the next level," said Kimberly Ballard-Washington. "You develop a love for the sports you play, and even after you get out of college, you may be interested in continuing a career in that field. We're going to show our students and community members the potential their future can hold - a path they may not have considered. We want our students to be able to get not just the entry-level jobs, but the management positions. I'm excited particularly for our HBCU population."

Savannah State University's College of Business Administration offers a professional program that combines a general education with broad based programs of education in business. Wesley McGriff, class of '90 Wesley McGriff, class of 1990, is the co-defensive coordinator/ secondary coach at the University of Louisville. A native of Tifton, Ga., Wesley McGriff, class of 1990, is the co-defensive coordinator/ secondary coach at the University of Louisville. McGriff played at South Carolina State for one year before transferring to Savannah State, where he started at outside linebacker for three seasons and was named the conference’s 1989 Male Academic Athlete of the Year. McGriff has been in the coaching ranks since 1990 when he was hired as a graduate assistant at Savannah State, where he coached for four years.
