SSU Crowns Miss and Mister Savannah State University

Savannah State University Hosts Savannah in Atlanta Day on Nov. 12

What: The Savannah in Atlanta Day Who: Savannah State University’s (SSU) Interim President Cynthia Robinson Alexander, J.D. invites current high school students to join her in Atlanta for an afternoon of special events featuring on-site admissions and financial aid information, along with the opportunity to meet the president and a diverse group of SSU faculty and staff. Author Victor Luckerson on Campus Oct. 23

What: Built from the Fire - A conversation about the impact of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The event is free and the public is invited. Who: Built from the Fire author Victor Luckerson, is a former business writer for Time Magazine. His work, focused on bringing neglected black history to light, has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Wired and Smithsonian Magazine, among others. Luckerson will be interviewed by Wanda Lloyd, a retired journalist who served more than four decades in editing roles at seven daily newspapers, including The Washington Post and USA Today. Lloyd is the former chair of SSU's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame. Savannah State University Professor to Discuss Renewed Violence in the Middle East

  What: A discussion on why Israel and Palestine are in conflict again. What led to this new cycle of violence ignited by the Hamas attack on Israel earlier this month? Telfair Museums and SSU Host Community in Conversation: Legacy of Slavery in Savannah

  Since 2019, Telfair Museums has collaborated with artists, scholars, and organizations across Savannah to hold community engagement events and exhibitions through the Community in Conversation: Legacy of Slavery in Savannah initiative. Telfair celebrates the culmination of this initiative with a weekend-long reflection at Savannah State University and the Jepson Center that welcomes the greater Savannah metropolitan area to engage in difficult conversations about legacies of slavery in our community.  Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at 6pm : Telfair will kick-off the weekend of events at Savannah State University's T.A.
