Student Spotlight on Lauren Gonzalez

Gonzalez represented Savannah State University among 40 HBCUs at the virtual White House Press Briefing in September.

Senior Public Relations major Lauren Gonzalez was one of 20 HBCU student journalists to speak at the White House Press Briefing led by White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during National HBCU Week in early September. 

“Being able to represent my HBCU, Savannah State University, at the first White House HBCU Week Press Conference was an experience I never imagined I would be able to have, " she said. "There were 20 HBCUs present, and we got to ask those tough questions that most students probably never would have gotten answers to if it weren’t for this opportunity. I will cherish this experience for a lifetime.”

Savannah State University Presidential Search Committee Named

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2024 The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) today named members of the Savannah State University (SSU) Presidential Search Committee. The committee will conduct a national search for a permanent president to lead the historic university. President Cynthia Robinson Alexander has held the interim role since July 1, 2023, following the departure of the previous president, Kimberly Ballard-Washington.
