Telfair Museums and SSU Host Community in Conversation: Legacy of Slavery in Savannah


 

Since 2019, Telfair Museums has collaborated with artists, scholars, and organizations across Savannah to hold community engagement events and exhibitions through the Community in Conversation: Legacy of Slavery in Savannah initiative. Telfair celebrates the culmination of this initiative with a weekend-long reflection at Savannah State University and the Jepson Center that welcomes the greater Savannah metropolitan area to engage in difficult conversations about legacies of slavery in our community. 

Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at 6pm: Telfair will kick-off the weekend of events at Savannah State University's T.A. Wright Stadium with food and a live performance by the Powerhouse of the South, Savannah State University Marching Band. This event will be free and open to the public. Pre-registration is not required.

Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at 10-4pm: A series of panel discussions will take place in the Howard Jordan Mary C. Torian Auditorium, where contributing scholars from around the country will present their research findings for the forthcoming publication Legacy of Slavery in Savannah. Savannah State University Presidential Search Committee Named

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2024 The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) today named members of the Savannah State University (SSU) Presidential Search Committee. The committee will conduct a national search for a permanent president to lead the historic university. President Cynthia Robinson Alexander has held the interim role since July 1, 2023, following the departure of the previous president, Kimberly Ballard-Washington.
