 SSU’s Powerhouse of the South is No. 1 for DII November Rankings

The Powerhouse of the South, Savannah State University’s (SSU) own marching band, was rated Number 1 in Division II for the Month of November in the latest ranking for the ESPN Band of the Year HBCU band championship.

Performances are judged on an individual basis, with judges giving scores for specific areas only, said the announcement of HBCUgameday.com

The judging committee is co-chaired by Jackson State Director of Bands Emeritus, Professor Dowell Taylor, and Dr. Julian E. White, FAMU Director of Bands Emeritus.

Congratulations to all the members of the illustrious Powerhouse of the South and to Dr. Arnold.

Savannah State University Presidential Search Committee Named

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2024 The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) today named members of the Savannah State University (SSU) Presidential Search Committee. The committee will conduct a national search for a permanent president to lead the historic university. President Cynthia Robinson Alexander has held the interim role since July 1, 2023, following the departure of the previous president, Kimberly Ballard-Washington.
