Student Profile: Meet Kenneth Lockhart, Class of 2023

Kenneth Lockhart, Class of 2023.

Kenneth Lockhart Graduates with a 4.0 GPA and is Bound for Georgia Tech

Kenneth Lockhart knows he can get anywhere from here. Just like the tagline says. After graduating from Savannah State University (SSU) in December 2023, the electronics engineering major and punter for the Tigers football team is headed for the Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue a Master of Science in cybersecurity and to continue his punting career with the Yellow Jackets.

The Hinesville, Ga. native is graduating from SSU with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. He starts at Georgia Tech in spring 2024.

“I’ve always had a passion to learn and apply knowledge,” he said. “I want to improve as a scholar and as a football player. It’s an attitude of always wanting to improve.”

He draws motivation from his parents who always worked hard and provide for him. “Their dedication to raising me was pretty motivational,” he added.

Curiosity is what drew him to electronics. “I was always interested in knowing how things work,” he said. He did his share of disassembling electronic devices and building Lego sets.

Of his time on campus, he remembers Dr. Rakibul Akanda one of his professors. “He was very thorough with his lectures and always willing to help all students.”

When thinking about his success at SSU and about being accepted into the most competitive engineering schools in the Georgia, he pauses.

“If you look at if from an outside perspective it may seem astonishing, but for me I don’t need to make things bigger than they should. I keep it real because what I am really doing is working to be disciplined and successful.”
