Savannah State Announces 2024 Football Schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State University Department of Athletics has announced their 2024 football schedule which includes five home games and two first time opponents.

 
The 2024 Homecoming game will be on October 26 against Lane College at 3 p.m.
 
The Tigers will open the 2024 season on the road at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on September 7. This will be the first meeting between SSU and the Jaguars. Southern competes at the FCS level and is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
 
In week two, on September 14, Savannah State will start their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference slate with their first home game of the season against Central State University at 6 p.m.
 
Savannah State will travel to Tuskegee University on September 21 for their second conference match-up of the season.
 
A week later, SSU will host in-state rival Fort Valley State University on September 28 at 6 pm.
 
After a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to play Clark Atlanta University on October 5, the Tigers return home for a non-conference game with Lincoln University Oakland on October 12 at 6 p.m.
 
This will be the first ever match-up between the Tigers and Lincoln University California. The Oaklanders are a fairly new program, having getting started in 2021 and is a member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Senior College and University Commission.
 
The Tigers will take the short trip down I-95 South to face Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida on October 19 in a battle of the Tigers.
 
Following the October 26 Homecoming date with Lane, the Tigers will close out their 2024 home schedule with Albany State University on November 2 at 3 p.m. It will be the 66th meeting in a rivalry that began in 1932.
 
The 2024 regular season ends on November 9 with a road trip to play Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.
 
All home game will be played at Theodore A. Wright Stadium on the SSU campus.

SSU Announces 2025 Scholarship Gala

Savannah State University (SSU) is pleased to announce the 26th Anniversary Scholarship Gala will be held on Saturday, Apr. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Savannah Convention Center. The annual community event celebrates local leaders while raising funds to provide financial assistance to SSU students, 90% of whom receive some sort of financial assistance for college. Dr. Jermaine Whirl Named SSU President

Dr. Jermaine Whirl   The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) today named Dr. Jermaine Whirl president of Savannah State University (SSU), effective April 1, 2025. Whirl, an Aspen Fellow, most recently served as president of Augusta Technical College (ATC), a role he has held since November 2020. Whirl’s career includes nearly 20 years of service as a faculty member and administrative leader at public colleges and universities in his home state of South Carolina and in Georgia.
