Savannah State University hosted SSU Day at the Capitol on February 28, attracting alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends to the Georgia State Capitol in a show of support for the university. The annual tradition seeks to strengthen ties between the university and state legislators and fosters a collaborative environment that benefits the university and the Savannah community.
SSU Day at the Capitol also serves as an opportunity to highlight university milestones and showcase student achievements. SSU Interim President Cynthia Robinson Alexander, J.D. led the SSU delegation that visited the Capitol from 8 – 11 a.m.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students, faculty, staff, and our friends to show support for the university and build relationships with state legislators,” said Alexander. “The event also exposes our students to a higher level of involvement with state leaders and instills the importance of advocacy and civic responsibility.”
The SSU delegation heard from a number of legislators, including alumnus Senator Derek Mallow and alumna State Representative Edna Jackson.
