SSU Inclement Weather Campus Update 11.7.2024 4.35PM

Good evening Savannah State University community,

Savannah State University’s leadership and emergency management teams are actively monitoring current weather conditions in Savannah.

Everyone on campus is confirmed safe, and student affairs and public safety are working together to respond to any inquiries. The torrential rains appear to have subsided, and our team continues to assess the situation. We will provide further updates as necessary.

Please exercise caution while driving both on and off campus. Respect the barricades set up for safety, and please do not drive through or around any orange cones.

From the City of Savannah:

Due to a recently issued Flash Flood Warning for Chatham County and nearby areas until 6:45 PM, check out these key reminders to stay safe during heavy rainfall.

  • Avoid Flooded Areas: Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwaters. Even shallow moving water can be dangerous, and water may be deeper than it appears.
  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown: If you encounter a flooded road, turn around and take an alternate route.
  • Emergency Kit: Have an emergency kit ready with essentials like water, food, a flashlight, batteries, and important documents.
  • Stay Informed: Monitor local news, CEMA, weather.gov, and visit savannahga.gov/floodalert to stay updated on current conditions.

Classes are expected to resume on their normal schedule on Friday, November 8th, 2024.

For any questions or concerns, please contact public safety at 912.358.3004.

This was a year of positive change, strategic growth and   major   accomplishments for our beloved Savannah State University (SSU). I am so proud of how our students, faculty, and staff have set and reached new goals and how many   of   our alums have lovingly supported their alma mater and inspired the next generation.   By strategically targeting expanding job markets, diligently pursuing grants, and writing winning proposals, we are now developing new courses in elementary education, forensic toxicology, and film. By collaborating with local, national, and international partners, we have secured internship opportunities for our students in manufacturing, healthcare, and several Dutch-owned companies, pursuant to a successful summer visit with the King and Queen of the Neth...
