SSU Campus Community Weather Update 1.10.25

Dear SSU Campus Community,

The university continues to monitor the weather forecast anticipated in the coming days. A Winter Weather Warning is in effect for North Georgia, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected on Friday, January 10th. Wintery precipitation is likely to affect areas from central to northern Georgia.

The highest risk for ice accumulation is predicted for North Georgia, especially along the I-85 and I-20 corridors. We urge anyone traveling from the north on Friday to exercise caution and assess road conditions before beginning their journey.

Governor Kemp has declared a State of Emergency through Tuesday. The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) has been instructed to treat roads in advance, and we encourage everyone to limit travel as much as possible in the coming days to ensure safety.

Due to the predicted inclement weather for the State of Georgia, student move-in has been modified for the weekend to the schedule below.

  • Saturday, January 11, 2025 – 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Sunday, January 12, 2025 – 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM (Only for students with a cleared balance will be admitted on Sunday.  Financial Aid, Bursar, Registrar, Advising and, Admissions will not be available.)

At this time, the campus will continue to operate on a normal schedule. The Emergency Management Team and SSU Senior Leadership will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our top priority during this weather event. Please ensure you are registered to receive SSU emergency alerts through the Everbridge app. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Savannah State University Public Safety Department at 912-358-3004.
