SSU Weather Update: First Week of Classes

Dear SSU Campus Community,

We are closely monitoring the weather forecast as we prepare for significant winter weather in the coming days. A Winter Weather Warning is now in effect for North Georgia, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain anticipated on Friday, January 10th. We expect wintry precipitation to impact areas from central to northern Georgia, with the highest risk for ice accumulation focused in North Georgia, particularly along the I-85 and I-20 corridors.

Recognizing that students may not be able to travel to campus during the Governor's State of Emergency declaration, all absences from class on Monday, January 13, and Tuesday, January 14, 2025, will be excused absences, and professors will work with you to make up any class work that is missed."

Students are advised to communicate with university housing and their professors in advance regarding challenges with travel plans.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our top priority. At this time, the campus will be open during normal operational hours. The Emergency Management Team and SSU Senior Leadership will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary.

Please ensure you are registered to receive SSU emergency alerts through the Everbridge app. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Savannah State University Public Safety Department at 912-358-3004.
