SSU Inclement Weather Update 1.24.25

Greetings, SSU Campus Community:

Hope you are safe and warm. As employees are able to return to campus, we ask you remain alert and cautious of the dangers of ice accumulations and cold temperatures.

As we move back to normal campus operations over the weekend and Monday, January 27th, we encourage everyone on campus to exercise caution while navigating the grounds. Temperatures remain low and ice has accumulated in many locations.

Your safety is the top priority, and we want to ensure a smooth and secure transition back to normal operations.

Key points to remember:

  • Proper footwear: Wear boots or shoes with textured soles for better grip on ice.
  • Walk cautiously: Take short, deliberate steps and avoid rushing.
  • Watch where you step: Look ahead to identify potential slippery spots and uneven surfaces.
  • Use handrails: Always use handrails when going up or down stairs.
  • Avoid distractions: Don't text or talk on the phone while walking on ice.
  • Be mindful of shaded areas: Ice may persist longer in shady spots on campus.
  • Keep clear of the sides of buildings: As the ice melts, the chance of falling water or ice increases.
  •  Obey any posted hazardous signs or tape.
  • Avoid driving if possible:
    • In the event that you must drive:
      • Drive at a reduced speed.
      • Allow extra time to stop.
      • Leave plenty of distance between you and other vehicles.

Stay informed. Be sure to check your email and the campus website for any further updates or changes.

As an update, campus dining operations will also return to normal this weekend.

Thank you for your willingness and ability to embrace and adapt to the ever-changing weather conditions.
