Now Accepting Nominations for 2024 Founders Day Awards

Overstreet Savannah State University is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Savannah State University Founders Day awards. Nominations can be submitted for the Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence and the  Cyrus G. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award. The honorees will be recognized during Savannah State University’s Founders Day on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. The event celebrates the history of the institution and those who have contributed to its success. The ceremony includes a guest speaker. Hurricane Milton Update October 10, 2024 3:32 PM

  Greetings Savannah State University Community,   The National Weather Service forecasts that  today through Saturday , the Savannah weather will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 70s and low temperatures in the mid-50s and that Hurricane Milton has moved offshore into the Atlantic Ocean. This morning, the Savannah State Emergency Management team completed a full analysis of the campus to ascertain the conditions and any impact that may have occurred. This analysis indicates that there were no power outages or significant impact to campus facilities. The team will continue monitoring the campus to ensure all facilities are operational.   While classes will continue online  on Friday, October 11 , we look forward to resuming normal campus operations.  All employees are expected to return to work in person unless otherwise communicated.  We are grateful that our campus was not impacted, and our thoughts are with those affected by the storm.  Hurricane Milton Update October 9, 2024 7PM  Savannah State University will transition to remote learning on Thursday, October 10 th  through Friday, October 11 th . Residence halls will remain open, and dining services will be modified. SSU dining services will have limited hours and locations open on Thursday, October 10, 2024. King Frazier will be open for full-service breakfast between the hours of 7:00 am - 11:00 am.  It is requested that all students pick up to-go dining options by 11:00 am  in King Frazier to accommodate their lunch and dinner for Thursday which will allow students time to return to their residence safely.  The SSU emergency management team is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and conducting formal check-ins multiple times daily to assess new information. Hurricane Milton Update Wednesday, October 9th ' Savannah State University (SSU) continues to be guided by the National Weather Service’s projections regarding Hurricane Milton. The Chatham County/Savannah, Ga area is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning.   Out of an abundance of caution, SSU is closely monitoring and responding to the following:   The time of impact on the campus has moved from overnight Wednesday to early Thursday morning through Thursday evening.   Using an abundance of caution and because the campus is located on the marsh, the University will transition to remote learning on Thursday, October 10 th through Friday, October 11 th . Residence halls will remain open . In the event that dining services are altered, a separate email will be sent with hours and instructions.   Dear SSU Community: The campus of Savannah State University will continue normal operations based on the latest information provided by the National Weather Service, Chatham County Emergency Agency, and the National Hurricane Center. Our emergency management team is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and conducting formal check-ins multiple times daily to assess new information. During the   6:30 p.m.   briefing this evening, the team reviewed the national weather service update which indicates no change to the storm’s projected path and impact. The Savannah area is currently predicted to receive tropical storm force winds and rain bands from Hurricane Milton. These impacts may cause a storm surge leading to tidal flooding of low-lying areas on Thursday.   While the campus is expected to experience minimal impacts, we understand that circumstances can change quickly. Hurricane Updates to Campus from Interim President Alexander

Sunday, Sept. 29, 5:10 p.m. Greetings Campus Community! On behalf of the entire Savannah State University family, I want to thank our students for their incredible patience, community spirit and heart shown to one another and our staff. We have worked together to provide the highest level of comfort, care, food service and support during this unprecedented storm and recovery period. Our number one priority has been and continues to be to ensure safety for everyone within the confines of limited power. At this time the campus and the surrounding areas are still without power. Despite these circumstances our staff and Aladdin food service teams continue to operate in the Student Union on an emergency generator. Students are provided meals throughout the day and into the evening hours as well as access to charging stations to support electronic devices. Internet access and charging capabilities are also available in the Hubbert D building on campus The Savannah State leadership team,
